Littleton Colorado

The roots of Littleton, Colorado are as deep as the settling of the west itself. The first burst of colonization came as '49ers charted their wagon trains across the prairies to stake their gold claims in the legendary Pike's Peak. But not all of them made it that far. Families began to settle in little communities dotted across the vast expanse of the west and many wound up converging in the fledgling metropolis of Denver. Littleton was eventually settled by the workmen hired to lay the necessary infrastructure for farms and businesses in the city, while itself remaining a quieter residential burg. Because of this, you might think that Littleton means "little town", but it is actually named after the chief engineer charged with building Denver.

Littleton today keeps a strong hold on its history. At local Ketring Lake, you will find the fourteen acre Littleton Historical Museum, with an emphasis on living history. You can experience a working blacksmith shop, ice house, and two farms. Visitors here are immersed in history, rather than observing pieces of it behind glass cases. Staff interpreters who work this site strive to keep the atmosphere educational yet fun. It's a popular destination in the area, so much that the main buildings are being expanded to include more galleries, classrooms, lecture hall and research facilities. Vintage baseball tournaments are held here, and players compete in the rustic uniforms and original equipment that would have been used over a century ago.
